The good news is that we've had plenty of new snow today! But with such strong wind, it's difficult to assess exactly how much snow fell. One snow stake had none, the other had 11". So we're splitting the difference and calling it 6". But in reality, there are spots that are completely scoured... and other spots that have 2-3 feet of drifted new snow. That's the way the mountain will ride on Thursday - highly variable amounts of new snow from place to place.

Speaking of Thursday, we have every intention of opening at 9:00am. But, quite frankly, we have one heck of a Storm Recovery effort ahead of us. As of this writing, the wind is still very severe. So the bulk of the Storm Recovery process will have to wait until first light Thursday morning. Lifts will need to be de-iced and checked for wind damage, and downed trees and limbs will have to be cleared. The wind is expected to remain strong this evening, and then slowly lighten-up in the morning.

We're not exactly sure what we'll be facing in the morning, so we've called in extra crews to assist in the Storm Recovery effort. But expect a reduced number of lifts to be open at 9:00am. As Storm Recovery allows, more lifts could open as the day progresses.

Remember, it's your responsibility to ski/ride only in OPEN areas. The westside (Outback/Northwest) lifts are not likely to be open at 9:00am Thursday, so we expect that no one will attempt to ski or ride in that area. Electronic signage at the bottom of Pine Marten & Sunrise lifts will indicate live lift status, as will the flip-signs at the top of Pine Marten. Our mobile phone site also contains live lift status information. Anyone caught skiing/riding that terrain before it opens will have their pass confiscated and deactivated.

That said... we're looking forward to much-improved weather coming up. After some dry days Thursday and Friday, it appears that several cold powder days are on tap for this weekend and next week. Conditions should be amazing once this wind blows itself out of town!

Current Weather - Colder, but still very windy with blowing snow. Occasional breaks in the clouds, but primarily cloudy. Wind instruments aren't functioning properly - estimated mid-mountain gusts are 50 to 100 mph.

Snow Surface - Highly variable, from scoured icy patches to very deep snow drifts. Grooming will attempt to even out some of the variability on main runs overnight.

Helpful Hint: We schedule two full shifts of grooming crews every night to groom up to 50 runs. In this report, we designate whether a run was groomed on the first shift (4pm - 12am) or the second shift (12am - 8am). Please bear in mind that during snowstorms, runs groomed on either shift may have additional snow accumulation.
